Hosts play Austria after heavy defeat against Canada Kuwait look to bounce back at worlds

KUWAIT CITY, July 9: Even after suffering a heavy defeat against Canada, current champions of the American Football U-19 World Champions, the Kuwait national team stood up and are more than ready to go against Austria tonight. Kuwait’s U-19 head coach James William stated that despite the fact that the Kuwaiti team is the newcomer in this championship, and that the first match up was against the world champions, the team performed with high fighting spirits. He expressed his hope that the team will perform even better in tonight’s match against Austria, a more advanced team in terms of the game, pointing out that although the great difference in experience between the Kuwaiti team and the rest of the participating teams that consists of high level professional players, it will not stop the Kuwaiti team from delivering a performance that will be remembered.

From his side Canadian coach Warren Craney wished the Kuwaiti team better luck throughout the championship, leaving the Kuwaiti team’s defeat aside, coach Craney affirmed that there are formidable players in the Kuwaiti team, and that they will be able to make a difference in games to come. In the other hand, one of the Kuwaiti team players Faisal Al-Yagout expressed his gratitude for the efforts of all the people that promoted this sport in the country, taking it a long way considering the sport is practically one year old, in comparison to the rest of the participating teams, who have accumulated years of experience.

Moreover, The Kuwait Grid-Iron Football Federation (KGFF) is the first official Grid-Iron Football association approved by an Olympic Committee in the Middle-East, which is currently under the management of the KGFF Board of directors, lead by Sheik Mohamed Salman Al-Sabah. KGFF acquired a full International Federation of American Football (IFAF) membership on the 5th of July 2012 during the 15th IFAF congress in Austin Texas US, making it the first Arab country to join the federation. Under the patronage of his highness Sheikh Sabah Ahmad Jaber Al-Sabah the Amir of Kuwait, IFAF U-19 World Championship which is currently being held in Kuwait with its second round taking place tonight, marks the third season of U-19 world championships, and the first one to leave the shores of the US since it started.
