Kuwait to attend UN meet on non-communicable diseases Al-Sahlawi to lead delegation

KUWAIT CITY, July 9, (KUNA): Kuwait’s Ministry of Health will participate with a highlevel delegation led by Dr Khaled Al-Sahlawi in a UN meeting about following up the prevention and control of non-communicable diseases. “Preparations for the meeting which will be held from July 10-11 in New York have been made by the United Nations, World Health Organization (WHO) and United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) to review accomplishments made by UN member states to carry out the political declaration issued in September 2011 to prevent and control non-communicable diseases,” Al-Sahlawi told a press conference on Tuesday.

He pointed out that the meeting will be held in general sessions, roundtable discussions and side meetings to discuss progress made by countries around the world to implement the political declaration and renew commitments to its provisions to prevent non-communicable diseases and related serious factors.

He stressed the important role of the modern healthy information system and national record of cancer to put plans and follow up progress to implement resolutions of the UN and WHO according to the UN political declaration issued in September 2011 to prevent and control non-communicable diseases.

He demonstrated that Kuwait will present its report in this regard before the UN high-level meeting on Wednesday and Thursday to show achievements to implement the gains of the UN political declaration. He pointed out that WHO has chosen the Department of Physiology, Faculty of Miedicine, Kuwait University as a supportive regional center.
