Security teams to strictly deal with beggars during Ramadan Citizens, expatriates urged to cooperate

KUWAIT CITY, July 1: Assistant Undersecretary for Citizenship and Passports Major General Sheikh Mazen Al-Jarrah has said security teams from the ministry will strictly deal with the phenomenon of begging which some individuals tactically engage in during the holy month of Ramadan and other religious occasions.

In a press statement, Sheikh Mazen noted integrated security program the sector has initiated to control begging is being implemented in coordination with the Public Security Sector, Criminal Investigation Department, Police Rescue Department, Immigration Investigation Department, Deportation Department and Ministry of Social Affairs and Labor, along with the Kuwait Municipality.

He explained that some individuals exploit the benevolence of Kuwaiti citizens who are interested in charitable activities and provide donations and assistance to needy people. He added the concerned security systems have set an integrated plan to control the negative phenomenon by dispatching security and police patrol teams around the clock to vantage points across the governorates, particularly in front of mosques and commercial areas. He added the security campaign accompanies an awareness campaign to enlighten citizens and expatriates on the activities of the tactical beggars who operate in the holy month and on special religious occasions.

He stressed the campaign requires positive collaboration with citizens and expatriate who are urged to report beggars to the concerned security systems to curb the phenomenon that poses great harm to Kuwaiti society.
