New bank notes won’t ‘deposit’ for 2 months

KUWAIT CITY, June 30: Senior banking officials have said the Automated Teller Machines (ATM) in banks will not accept cash deposits of the new currency which has been in circulation since Saturday, until the end of the two months period set for the old currency to remain in circulation. He added “it’s possible to deposit the new currency through an agent in the bank”, reports Al- Watan Arabic daily.

Sources said many people have been facing difficulty using the new currency as many selling points, especially shops dominated by non-Arab nationals, do not accept the new currency due to lack of extensive awareness on its circulation.

Meanwhile, the Union of Kuwait Banks has formed a joint operations room with the Central Bank of Kuwait (CBK) and other banks to follow up the situation, but the operations room has yet to receive any complaint from customers, while the K-net Company indicated withdrawal operations were normal.
