Several citizens, residents fume over hikes in commodity prices Employees with limited income hit hard

KUWAIT CITY, June 23: Several citizens and residents are outraged by the recent hikes in prices of commodities as Ramadan approaches, and demanded the concerned surveillance body to take decisive steps to pursue greedy traders and cooperative societies that exaggerate the prices of foodstuffs, particularly in the holy month of Ramadan, reports Al-Seyassah daily quoting sources.

They added the prices of some commodities have skyrocketed by 400 percent and others by 100 percent and 50 percent respectively.

They stressed price hikes mount pressure on the people limited income and makes it difficult for them to bear other burdens of life. They noted the prices of foodstuffs in Kuwait during Ramadan are considered the most expensive on the level of GCC countries, and there is need to consider the poor people and those whose salaries are minimal- particularly the employees of private sector, as many of them have not received salary increments for years although labor law stipulates that certain percentage of annual increment must be paid to these employees.

They reiterated that officials do not care about the sufferings of the people with limited income, as long as these officials received huge salaries. They also said prices of most foodstuffs have doubled compared to the last Ramadan.
