FX leads the field with 19 noms ‘Breaking Bad’ wins best drama for its final season

LOS ANGELES, June 21, (RTRS): The stars were out for the 2014 Critics’ Choice Television Awards, which kicked off at 8/7c on The CW Thursday night. Cedric the Entertainer was on hand to host the fourth annual ceremony, which saw FX lead the field with 19 nominations. Awards-show favorite HBO came in a close second with 18 total nominations. Allison Tolman went from virtual unknown to award-winning actress when she nabbed an award for Best Supporting Actress in a Mini-Series or Movie for her work on FX’s “Fargo,” beating out such Hollywood luminaries as Kathy Bates, Ellen Burstyn, and Julia Roberts. Her co-stars Billy Bob Thornton and Martin Freeman faced off for Best Actor, with Thornton coming out on top, while “Fargo” also took honors as Best Mini-Series. Despite its limited run, HBO’s “True Detective” competed in the drama category, where Matthew McConaughey won in the category of Best Actor in a Drama Series. On the Best Actress side, it was more accolades for Tatiana Maslany’s mind-bending performances as a whole slew of clones on “Orphan Black” as she took home the trophy. “Breaking Bad” took home Best Drama for its final season, with Aaron Paul nabbing victory for Best Supporting Actor in a Drama Series.
