Court acquits expat of rape, breaking into neighbor’s flat

KUWAIT CITY, June 20: The Criminal Court presided over by Judge Hassan Al-Shimmari acquitted an expatriate who was accused of trespassing into his female neighbor’s apartment and attempting to rape her.

According to the case files, the Public Prosecution accused the suspect of breaking the door of his neighbor’s apartment where she was residing alone and attempting to rape her. She explained in her testimony that he drops her daily to work.

On the day of the crime, he had called her and asked if he could visit her. When she refused, he barged into the apartment by breaking the front door and tried to rape her but she managed to resist him and escaped.

Investigations conducted by securitymen confirmed the victim’s testimony, proving that the suspect broke the door of the apartment.

However, defense Attorney Talal Al-Enezi stressed on the illogicality of the plaintiff’s testimony and contradictions in it. He also stressed on the lack of seriousness in the investigations carried out by the in-charge officer.

He said the case files do not include any evidences against his client, indicating that officers from the General Department for Criminal Evidences were not summoned to examine the door and confirm whether it was broken from the inside or outside. He added that the victim was not examined by the Forensics Department.
