Clients to pay traffic fines on rented cars - Court revokes Al-Ali orders

KUWAIT CITY, June 19: The Administrative Court has revoked the decision issued by the former assistant undersecretary for Traffic Affairs at Ministry of Interior Major General Abdul Fattah Al-Ali against car rental offices by preventing the transfer of violations to the renters of the cars.

The owners of many car rental offices filed a petition, demanding the cancelation of the decision taken by Major General Al-Ali. It was specified in the petition that the decision was in violation of Article 35 of the Traffic Law which stipulates that the driver of a vehicle is responsible for payment of fine for the violation he/she committed. Attorney Bader Baqer who represented the owners of the car rental offices stressed that forcing the offices to pay for the violations committed by their clients was unfair.

TV anchor acquitted: The Criminal Court acquitted a TV presenter from libel charges filed against her by a musical artist. Defense Lawyer Bader Baqer said his client did not directly or indirectly refer to the artist in her show and had used words in a general manner, adding that there are many artists with names similar to that of the plaintiff. He explained that his client was generally talking about artists of GCC countries and the plaintiff is not among them because she does not hold the passport of any GCC country.
