‘Code Red’ alert – KPC

KUWAIT CITY, June 19: Kuwait Petroleum Corporation (KPC) has increased its alert status to “Code Red” in preparation for declaration of emergency due to the unfolding crisis in Iraq and the possibility of Kuwait to be affected by its repercussions. The Chairman of KPC Nizar Al-Adsani has urged the directors of oil companies in Kuwait to take necessary measures in securing all oil facilities and its operations in the country, and ensuring the strategic oil reserve is prepared in coordination with the affiliates of the oil companies and the world marketing sector as a precautionary emergency measure.

Meanwhile, the concerned security agencies have intensified investigations to find the owner of the Twitter account that posted pictures of a veiled person holding a placard indicating Kuwait’s support of the leader of the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL) Abubakar Al-Baghdadi, urging ISIL to conquer the rest of the districts and Kuwait, and imposing the Sharia law in the conquered area the same way it was imposed in the Syrian town of Riqqa.

Sources from Ministry of Interior have assured that the situation in the country is under control and the owner of the Twitter account will soon be identified. They insisted that the ministry will not spare any efforts in pursuing those who try to stir panic and instigate sectarian tensions in the country.
