Labour market skills needed

KUWAIT CITY, June 17, (KUNA): Undersecretaries of the GCC labor ministries met here on Tuesday to discuss a host of issues bearing on manpower and labor sector in the GCC member states. The meeting aims to discuss preparations and arrangements for a meeting of GCC labor ministers due here on Wednesday.

Addressing the gathering, Director-General of the Public Authority for Manpower and head of the meeting Jamal Al- Dusry said such meetings mark a valuable opportunity for the conferees to share experience and to launch joint projects among the GCC member states.

The agenda of the meeting includes several weighty issues and topics, mainly suggestions to turn GCC pilot systems and laws into national ones, he said. He voiced confidence that inter-GCC cooperation, sincere efforts and hard work could surely contribute to attaining the best results and lead to making appropriate recommendations and resolutions.

On his part, Assistant Secretary-General of the GCC for Human and Environmental Affairs Abdullah Al-Hashem said the meeting was held in line with a previous ministerial resolution taken in Jeddah in June 2013. He regarded the gathering as a key step for attaining the goals of integration and coordination among the GCC member states. “We are looking forward to notching up the goals and directives of the GCC leaders aiming to provide maximum convenience and reassurance to the GCC citizens,” he said. Al-Hashem stressed the significance of improving manpower in the GCC countries by means of training personnel properly in order to acquire technical skills needed for the labor market in the private sector.
