Opposition supporters attend a rally at Erada Square, Tuesday
Opposition holds rally

KUWAIT CITY, June 10: Many citizens gathered at Erada Square Tuesday evening in response to the call of the Popular Labor Movement, which is known in Arabic as ‘Hashd’ — an opposition group led by former MP Musallam Al-Barrak. The movement organized the rally allegedly to unveil the truth about a number of controversial issues. Security officers were deployed to the venue to prevent any untoward incident and ensure smooth flow of traffic, while the Special Forces tightened security at Al-Seif Palace and Grand Mosque to stop the demonstrators from gathering in these areas.

The opposition said the huge gathering reflects the anger of the people who have realized that those engaged in corrupt activities and the enemies of the constitutional system must stop their violations. The group added the people are now aware of their role and power to stop the corrupt forces and hold them accountable for their misdeeds against the nation and its people. Speaking at the rally, Al- Barrak warned the real battle will start after this gathering. “We are now at a crossroad where the people will either be crowned with victory or suffer under the autocratic ruling of the country.” He alleged that bribery is rampant in the authorities in the country and there was a plot drafted in Geneva against the regime. “We have repeatedly advised the sheikhs, in private and in public, but no concrete steps have been taken. We gathered here not to give them advice again, but to draw the line in the name of the people of Kuwait and the future generations.

“Corruption within the ruling family has spread to every corner of the country and it is now destroying them - the alliance between sheikhs and greedy corporations who do not care if the country bleeds dry. The ruling family and some of its corrupt children can no longer govern the nation.” Addressing the corrupt in the ruling family, he asserted, “You have condemned those who opposed you and belittled those who followed you; so you no longer have allies other than the corrupt corporations.”
