Any rise in electricity tariffs will be applied first to govt institutions ‘Normal and reasonable consumers don’t have to worry’

KUWAIT CITY, June 6: The government will first apply any raise in electricity tariffs on the ministries and government institutions if the proposal is approved, reports Al-Anba daily quoting reliable sources as saying.

The same sources added the increase is not decided as yet, but related proposals are under study and the government prefers starting application of the proposed increase of the bill on its ministries and institutions- in an attempt to control wastage while raising nonoil revenues, noting the government is very convinced with the approach. Sources reassured citizens and residents that the proposed increase of electricity tariffs will not affect those who stick to normal and reasonable consumption limit.

Meanwhile, the Assistant Undersecretary for Cooperation Affairs in Ministry of Social Affairs and Labor Dr Matar Al-Mutairi said the ministry issued a decision recently obliging cooperative societies to purchase the local vegetables and fruits from two companies. He added the two companies are the only outlets for the local produce in Kuwait, reports Al-Seyassah daily.

He added that farmers depend on these two outlets to market their products from the farms in Al-Wafra and Al- Abdali, and the companies are only responsible for organizing auctions. He reiterated the step was taken in coordination with the Union of Cooperative Societies and Ministry of Commerce and Industry to put a stop to the activities of middlemen who monopolize the import of vegetables and fruits.
