KUWAIT CITY, June 6: Some 820 individuals were arrested for violating residency law in the first campaign initiated by Interior Ministry’s Assistant Undersecretary for Public Security Affairs Major General Abdul Fattah Al-Ali against residency law violators across the Farwaniya governorate, covering Al-Rai, Souk Juma and Jleeb Al-Shuyoukh.

The campaign, which started Friday at Asr prayer time and continued until 7:30 pm, was partly attended by the Farwaniya Governor Sheikh Faisal Al-Humoud, with the participation of officers from Public Security Sector. All suspects were referred to the concerned authorities.

Al-Ali, who until his recent appointment was the Interior Ministry’s Assistant Undersecretary for Traffic Affairs, dealt with an iron fist those who broke laws related to traffic. A number of expatriates were deported to their home countries for serious traffic violations during Al-Ali’s reign at the Traffic Department. Stories made the rounds that some motorists celebrated upon hearing of Al- Ali transfer to his present post.

Recently, Interior Ministry sources affirmed that Al-Ali would lead extensive security campaigns in the country to arrest violators and outlaws, adding that reckless drivers will also be pursued during the campaign.

The statement was in response to an increasing number of reports about the return of lawlessness on public roads after Al-Ali managed to put the reckless drivers on a tight leash for almost one year to the point where the public felt a sense of security on the roads.

Meanwhile, in their continuing campaign in Jahra governorate, security operatives apprehended 25 youths for loitering near cooperative societies and power generators.

They also nabbed 12 individuals for absconding from their sponsors, issued 63 traffic citations, and impounded 12 vehicles to the ministry garages. The officers arrested three other people for doing drugs in Jahra Industrial Area.
