International sports body holds 40th meet Host of issues tackled

KUWAIT CITY, June 3, (KUNA): Board of The International Court of Arbitration for Sport (ICAS) held its 40th meeting on Tuesday, under chairmanship of the head of the Court of Arbitration for Sport, John Coates. In remarks to KUNA following the meeting, Coates said holding the meeting at the Olympic Council of Asia’s (OCA) headquarters in Kuwait constituted a good opportunity to get acquainted with the country’s technical and organizational facilities and potentials. The meeting was held on sidelines of an international seminar on arbitration and sports law in Asia, Africa and Oceania, due in Kuwait on Wednesday.

Coates added that the meeting was the first to be held in a GCC country, noting its significance for developing tasks of the international sports tribunal, adding that representatives of more than 120 States would take part in the gathering. The meeting tackled a host of issues, namely the court tasks, adoption of its financial report and up to 408 cases that had been cross-examined by it throughout the year — mostly dealing with soccer. A request by the OCA to set up a special committee to examine disputes that make take place in the Asian games, due in South Korea in September, was approved.
