99-year jail term, fine absconder held Lebanon frees Kuwaiti inmate

KUWAIT CITY, May 30: A Kuwaiti citizen who was wanted by law for escaping a court verdict of 99-year imprisonment and fine of KD 10,000 was arrested in Adaliya area, reports Al-Seyassah daily

. According to security source, Capital securitymen were patrolling Adaliya area when they stopped an individual who committed a traffic violation with his vehicle.

When they asked him for his Civil ID, he said he did not have any identification document. He was referred to Adaliya Police Station where securitymen discovered that he is a Kuwaiti citizen who was sentenced to 99-year imprisonment and fine of KD 10,000 for possession of drugs.

The suspect was referred to the Sentences Enforcement Department for necessary legal action against him. Meanwhile, the Lebanese authorities have released a Kuwaiti who had been sentenced to five years in prison for an unidentified offence, reports Al-Rai daily.

The release was a result of successful diplomatic efforts exerted by a Kuwaiti businessman with the Lebanese government. And, two policemen — one of them an officer — have been referred for interrogation for erecting a checkpost in Jahra without permission from the authorities, reports Al-Rai daily.

According to security sources the policemen erected the checkpost after Maghreb prayers and it caused traffic congestion.
