‘Transfer’ nod for firms with US Army contracts

KUWAIT CITY, May 29: The Public Authority for Manpower has approved transfer of commercial visit visas into work permits for employees in companies which have contracts with the American Army.

Sources revealed the conditions laid down by the authority include requiring the companies to pay KD 200 extra fee per employee and adhere to the percentage of Kuwaiti workforce stipulated in the Council of Ministers decision number 1104/2008. Sources said the transfer should also reflect the same profession for which the concerned employee was recruited into the country.

Meanwhile, the Ministry of Social Affairs and Labor is reportedly contemplating on taking several decisions; on top of which is allowing male and female wards to remain in the Social Welfare Home after turning 21 years old, contrary to the current regulation which requires them to move out after reaching this age and once they gain employment.

According to a reliable source, Social Affairs Minister Hind Al-Subaih remains committed to her promise to provide the best services to the wards. He said the minister is keen on protecting the rights of the wards to help them integrate into mainstream society without any problem. The source explained the wards will not be forced to move out upon reaching 21 years of age and those who decide to stay will still be entitled to the privileges.

He asserted that forcing them to leave the home is tantamount to trampling upon their rights, as the action poses a grave threat to their lives considering they stayed in the home in their formative years
