Don Bosco Oratory lift GOA Rolling Trophy Nikhil & Agnelo score hat-tricks

KUWAIT CITY, May 27: Don Bosco Oratory outclassed this season’s champions the AVC Sports & Cultural Association and won the final 7-1 of the prestigious tournament organized by Goan Overseas Association (Kuwait) played at the MOH grounds under the auspices of Kuwait India Football Federation (KIFF). Earlier this week, Don Bosco Oratory (DBO) — one of the most feared teams among the Indian community — had narrowly lost to AVC in the semifinals of the KIFF League. Man of the Match and the tournament’s highest scorer young Nikhil D’Souza opened the scoring for Don Bosco from close range during a goalmouth melee and soon scored another and DBO went into the break with a comfortably 2-0 lead. The untiring Sidney of AVC gave a glimmer of hope when pulled one back from a direct free kick from just outside the penalty area and for a moment it looked like the AVC could still pull out a rabbit from the hat.

However, Nikhil had other ideas and completed his hat-trick after dribbling past two AVC defenders and slotting the ball home. Agnelo another young and talented Don Bosco player than took control and ably supported by Loyed, Michael and Steven scored three more goals to the surprise of the hapless AVC defense. Nikhil though had the final say when in the dying moments he scored the fourth to complete the scoring. The match was refereed by IFRA officials Sarto Baptista in the centre and Jan Rodrigues and Pascoal Fernandes on the lines. In his welcome address after the final whistle, G.O.A. President Raymond D’Sa welcomed the chief guest Ajay Sinha, Country Manager of Air India, Kuwait and thanked the airline for sponsoring a Kuwait-Goa return air ticket for the tournament. He also thanked KIFF President Fidelis Fernandes and the Managing Committee, Indian Football Referees Association (IFRA), and all the participating teams for their support in making the tournament a grand success He had a special word of appreciation for Gasper Almeida of Goa, IndiansinKuwait and the print media the Arab Times for the press publicity.

Ajay Sinha in his brief speech thanked the organizers for the invitation and said he will always support the community in the best way he can. A special service award was presented to Leo Fernandes, a long-serving member of Goan Overseas Association for his contribution to the Association. The referee awards were given away by James Figueira, and the runners-up medals by Tony Correia. Mrs Zinia Cardoso gave away the Runners-Up trophy to Kevin Vaz the captain of AVC and Raymond D’Sa and Ajay Sinha gave the winners individual trophies and the winners’ cup to Godfrey Aguiar the captain of Don Bosco.
