ACME International emerge victorious 3rd Blessen George Memorial Volleyball Tournament

KUWAIT CITY, May 26: Sports enthusiasts feasted on four days - May 14 to May 17 — of mesmerizing moments during the 3rd Blessen George Memorial Volleyball Tournament played at the flood-lit Fahaheel Indoor Sports Club Stadium with ACME outlasting the opponents in five thrilling sets. A total of six teams - ACME International, Riggae Volley Club, Kazma Club, Al-Jahra Sports Club, BAS (British Academy of Sports) and Amalia Perfumes/Travancore Sports Club - took part in the tournament. Representing the ACME International, Riggae Volley Club and Amalia Perfumes/Travancore Sports Club were 25 Indian national and international players from Kerala and Tamil Nadu prominent among them four times Indian captain and nine times Arjuna Award nominee Tom Joseph, former Indian captain Vipin George, current Indian captain Ukkra Pandy, Indian player and former Kerala State team captain, Shamji K. Thomas, top Indian team Spiker, Prabhakaran, Kishore Kumar, Kiran T. Philip, Vimal t. Jacob, Naveen and Moses.

The Kuwaiti clubs Kazma and Al-Jahra Sporting Club had national players in their line-up prominent among them being Musaed Abdulaziz, Ahmed Jaber, and Messal Al-Omar. The competitors were divided into two groups of three teams each. The first semifinal was played between Kazma Club and Amalia Perfumes/Travancore Sports Club, the former winning in three straight sets 25-23, 30-28, and 27-25. The second semifinal was between last year’s finalists ACME and Riggae Club. Both sides played precision volleyball and kept the spectators on the edge of their seats throughout the five sets. The winners were ACME 28-30, 25-19, 25-21, 27-29, 15-10. Tom Joseph, Vipin George and Kishore Kumar showed their exceptional skill and class for the Riggae Volley Club while Ukkra Pandy, Prabhakaran, Raj Kumar and Moses were outstanding for ACME.

The winner of the final between ACME and Kazma Club was decided by five exciting sets with both teams fighting with passion and determination to win every point. The final score 3-2 sets in favor of ACME. Vying for the third place were the Riggae Volleyclub and Amalia Perfumes/Travancore Sports Club and the former won by 25-23, 30-28 and 27-25 margin. Musaid Abdulaziz of the Kazma Club was adjudged Player of the Tournament, Prabhakaran of ACME won the Man of the Match award. The Player of the Tournament Award was sponsored by the Trans Atlantic Group and the Man of the Match Award was sponsored by Sunrise Restaurant, Fahaheel. The tournament was inaugurated on May 14, 2014 by the Kuwait Volleyball Association (KVA) President, Walid A. Aman and General Secretary Abdulla Al-Enezi. BGFI Chairman Oommen George presided over the function and Event Convener Chessil Ramapuram gave the welcome speech, Deputy Chairman of Fahaheel Sports Club, Rashed Al-Kandari gave the felicitation speech and Media & Souvenir Convener Raju Zachariahs the vote of thanks.
