MoI observes sharp increase in visit visas ‘Double check photos applying for citizenship’

KUWAIT CITY, May 25: Ministry of Interior observes a remarkable increase in visit visas held by a specific nationality that continually apply for extension of visas, reports Al-Rai daily. Security sources said the phenomenon is blamed on companies that employ visit visa holders in private sector to fill vacancies created by the Interior Ministry’s recent campaigns against residency law violators - coupled with low wages paid to the laborers who work on visit visas.

They explained that the ministry is looking into the issue and will most likely implement security measures to pursue residency law violators that work in such companies, noting the concerned authorities in the last five months have deported about 3,000 residency law violators.

Meanwhile, Assistant Undersecretary for Citizenship and Passports Affairs at the Ministry of Interior Major General Sheikh Mazen Al-Jarrah Al-Sabah recently issued a directive to thoroughly check the photos of those applying for citizenship and refer suspicious-looking photos to the General Criminal Evidence Department for verification, reports Al-Rai daily quoting security sources.

Sources explained the assistant undersecretary took this step in a bid to stop the forgery of photos attached to citizenship documents and passports.

Sources said the General Criminal Investigation Department has coordinated with the General Citizenship and Passports Affairs Department to procure computers with the ability to detect forged photographs.
