Imams warned against election canvassing Political activist Munais quits bloc

KUWAIT CITY, May 23: The Ministry of Awqaf and Islamic Affairs has warned imams and preachers not to canvass for any candidate or speak about any trend during elections, or incite people to vote for a particular candidate, reports Al-Qabas daily quoting reliable sources. In a circular the ministry has affirmed that anyone who violates the rules will be dismissed from his job.

The circular also states that it is forbidden to collect donations on behalf of any candidate or a particular trend. Legal procedures will be taken against violators, said the ministry.

Meanwhile, political activist Dr Ahmad Sami Al-Munais has resigned his membership from the Independence Path bloc that is headed by former MP Ali Al-Rashed, reports Al-Kuwaitiya daily. According to reliable sources, the resignation came following disagreements on the issue of boycotting the parliamentary by-elections. Al-Munais said he stood for participating in the elections to reform the current situation in the country
