KUWAIT CITY, May 22: Kuwait’s first privately owned telecommunications company launched on Wednesday night its transition to the new global brand - Ooredoo. The launch ceremony held at the Red Dome in South Surra, Zahra area was attended by Ooredoo top executives led by General Manager and CEO of Ooredoo in Kuwait, Engr Abdulaziz Fahkroo who was joined by Ooredoo employees and a number of local media personalities. “This is a major milestone in the history of our company and the beginning of our journey to the next level.

Rebranding will help us maintain growth momentum in a time where customers are expecting more from their operators. The Kuwaiti market is very receptive to change and new technological initiatives. We strongly believe that Ooredoo will lead this change and add value to our customers every step of the way,” stated Fakhroo in his welcome remarks as he expressed excitement to become part of Ooredoo.

Launch
He added that the launch of Ooredoo in Kuwait highlights the company’s commitment to promoting human growth and offering its customers the best-in-class services to enhance their lives. During the event, Ooredoo Head of Communications Riham Al Ayyar presented the new brand as she explained the meaning of the Ooredoo logo with a video presentation. “Becoming part of an international company that believes in change and innovation is a key moment for all Ooredoo stakeholders. We re-emphasize the importance of the customer experience which will witness tremendous changes as part of the new brand. The new initiatives will better serve the Kuwaiti market by leveraging and sharing the combined resources and assets of the global entity,” she pointed out.

Ooredoo in Kuwait will introduce a revamped portfolio of services and among its new services is Kuwait’s first comprehensive ecommerce range of services, whereby Ooredoo customers will be able to access and buy online exclusive offers on the latest electronic products. The brand launch was infused with some entertainment such as the Ardha (sword dance) and a traditional band that played Arabic folk music.

One of the highlights of the event was the awarding of plaques and tokens of appreciation to over 30 media personalities whose contributions to the media sector in Kuwait were vital in the development of the company over the years. Ooredoo Public Relations Manager Fatima Dashti called on all the awardees on stage as Fakhroo and Al Ayyar handed each of them a plaque and token of appreciation. Ooredoo Group has officially announced its new brand name on February 25, 2013 at the GSMA Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, Spain and from thereon, the new brand has been adopted by Ooredoo companies across the globe. It has received international recognition with a series of awards at major global events.

The company won several awards since the rebrand and was named “Best Mobile Operator” at the World Communication Awards in 2013. The core values of Ooredoo in Kuwait will focus on supporting the needs of the community via connectivity. Ooredoo Kuwait aims to continue committing itself to supporting life-changing initiatives including the current support for Bayt Abdullah, the first privately-owned Braille printing for the Kuwait Blind Association and pioneering a sports area which includes three indoor soccer fields to be launched this year. Ooredoo plans to launch a range of initiatives to support social development across Kuwait and promote them through brand Ambassadors who are seen as role models by the public.

Ooredoo has chosen Abdulla Buftain, a renowned Kuwaiti TV Presenter to be its brand ambassador who is known for his social media influence among the young people in the country. The event was capped by a sumptuous sit-down dinner as the traditional band played some entertaining musical repertoire
