Rewards for deeds depend on intention

OUR Ministry of Awqaf and Islamic Affairs engages in charity work in every part of the world despite the cost taken from public funds. According to the Ministry of Awqaf, money is temporary but charity work is long-lasting. The ministry decided to take its charity activities to a country or a place; which is 6,000 kilometers away from its blessed headquarters. It decided to take its charity activities and faithful employees, who are occupied only with charity work, to Brazil to attend the FIFA World Cup tournament that will start on June 12.

The secret behind their attendance is not to watch the World Cup football festival which is usually watched by millions of people around the world and hundreds of thousands on Brazil’s football pitches. Instead, their mission in Brazil is to distribute copies of the book of Allah, the Almighty — the Holy Qur’an, translated into various languages such as English, French, Spanish and Portuguese. The ministry requested allocation of money to buy 230 copies (only) to be distributed to the people of Brazil and the spectators of the World Cup festival. We then pray to Allah, the Almighty, to guide the people of Brazil through the ministry. In this manner, the ministry and its mission will receive great rewards.

One of the local newspapers commented on the topic, indicating that the body governing football — FIFA — prohibits distribution of any leaflets; whether political, religious or racial, inside the football pitch and the surrounding areas. Therefore, we fear for the faithful volunteers from our ministry due to those restrictions; but we also tell them that, ‘’rewards are based on the level of hardship and rewards for deeds depend on intentions.” May Allah grant them the best rewards.

On another issue related to the World Cup festival in Brazil but completely different from the one concerning our Awqaf Ministry, the United Nations AIDS program recently held its meeting in Abuja, Nigeria where it announced that it will provide and distribute two million condoms to the football fans who will be in Brazil to follow the World Cup. This will enable the football fans to protect themselves from human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) — the main cause of acquired immune deficiency syndrome (AIDS). Commenting on the matter was Director of International Communication for UNAIDS program Djibril Diallo. He said this step was taken in cooperation with the National Council for the Fight against AIDS, in a bid to protect the World Cup fans from sexually transmitted diseases.

Meanwhile, President of Nigeria Football Supporters Club Rafiu Ladipo rejected the program’s proposal to distribute two million condoms. He proposed increasing the number to 62 million, in anticipation of the sex tourism to prosper on the sidelines of the Football Mundial. He added the two million condoms will last only for one day; hence, the need for more to protect all the fans throughout the tournament. One of the wicked people commented on the news asking: Will Brazil host the football World Cup or the sex Mundial? On our side, we respond to him by saying: rewards for deeds depend on intentions. We also pray to Allah, the Almighty, to guide the organizers of this charity work to distribute condoms.
