‘AIDS-hit foreigners face deportation’ ‘Steps taken to prevent spread of disease’

KUWAIT CITY, May 20: Minister of Health Dr Ali Al-Obeidi was recently quoted as saying several measures have been taken to prevent the spread of AIDS in Kuwait, reports Al-Shahed daily.

The minister said foreigners suffering from AIDS will be immediately deported with the help of the Ministry of Interior. Al-Obeidi has disclosed according to the Infectious Diseases Hospital records four women — a Russian, a Thai, an Iranian and an Iraqi — wives of Kuwaitis are suffering from AIDS and are being treated at the hospital.

Among the men, a British citizen and an Iraqi are also believed to be suffering from AIDS but they are married to Kuwaiti women.

Al- Obeidi said according to a decision issued by the Council of Ministers foreigners married to Kuwaiti men or women and suffering from AIDS will not be deported.
