Seized liquor goes missing; Cop held with liquor

KUWAIT CITY, May 16: This year alone on two occasions several bottles of foreign liquor confiscated by the General Customs Department and handed over to the General Department for Drugs and Alcohol control have gone ‘missing’, reports Al-Seyassah daily.

The daily citing close judicial sources said personnel from the Public Prosecution were surprised during the alcohol destruction ‘ceremony’ when they discovered 17 out of the 300 confiscated cartons of Red Label whisky could not be accounted for.

The same sources said the alcohol is destroyed at a designated spot on the Seventh Ring Road and during the destruction process 17 cartons could not be accounted for.

The sources added, the concerned authority has asked the General Department for Drug and Alcohol Control for an explanation. The authority is also believed to be checking the records related to confiscated goods to shed light on the disappearance of the alcohol.

Cop held with liquor: The Jahra police have arrested a policeman working for the Ministry of Interior for possessing locally-manufactured booze and drugs, reports Al-Rai daily. The suspect was caught by a police patrol during routine inspection tour at an unidentified location. According to security sources the suspect was caught on suspicion because he looked disoriented. He has been handed over to the concerned authorities
