Unjustified sick leaves cost govt KD 20m a year Al-Kandari stresses need to combat corruption

KUWAIT CITY, May 11: The government spends KD20 million annually due to unjustified sick leaves; hence, the need to take the necessary measures to stop all forms of administrative corruption, reports Al-Shahid daily quoting State Minister for Municipality Affairs Essa Al-Kandari. Al-Kandari has stressed the need to combat corruption, while ensuring transparency and high quality of work to better serve the citizens and complete their transactions on time.

He also called for specifying penalties on those proven to have violated the principles of transparency and avoidance of conflicts of interests. He suggested laying down a mechanism based on the principle of transparency to allow legal competition amongst companies to take decisions regarding public purchases, protection of public funds and work after resignation or retirement in the private sector
