‘70 pc of budget for salaries, subsidies’ Bonuses put on hold

KUWAIT CITY, May 8: The State Minister for Cabinet Affairs Sheikh Mohammad Al-Abdullah has affirmed that more than 70 percent of the state budget is spent on salaries and subsidization of commodities and services, reports Al-Shahid daily. He explained that a study was conducted regarding reducing the amount of money spent on diesel production, for which the country spends KD 600 million annually, indicating that the government is studying the matter to issue the appropriate decision. He revealed that suggestions have been presented to provide fuel cards to Kuwaiti citizens.

Withdraw
Meanwhile, the State Minister for Municipality Affairs and Minister of Communications Essa Al- Kandari has issued orders to withdraw the decision to grant excellent performance bonus, which was supposed to be transferred to the beneficiaries’ accounts at the end of this month. He has demanded to be provided with the list of beneficiaries and the amount each was to receive, reports Al- Seyassah daily quoting informed sources. They said the minister’s decision is aimed to stop unnecessary waste of municipality’s budget and protect the state fund especially due to suspicions raised about money received by some nonofficials in the ministry, which is against the law and regulations established by the Civil Service Commission. Minister Al-Kandari has postponed the decisions regarding recruitments, reshuffling and retirement of officials, until end of this month after verdicts are issued over the cases filed by some employees against the minister. The minister took this step to avoid new cases that could be filed against the ministry over promotions, recruitments or reshuffles.

Approved
In another development, the Civil Service Commission (CSC) has approved the appointment of Mariam Al-Aqeel as the Director General of the Central Statistics Administration, during a meeting presided over by the Minister of Finance Anas Al-Saleh after referring the former director general Abdullah Sahar to retirement, reports Al- Anba daily.
