Domestic dispute cause of shooting down Jahra lawyer Threat to society, says lawyers society

 KUWAIT CITY, May 7: A Kuwaiti citizen has been arrested for shooting Lawyer Turki Al-Turki and injuring his Asian driver on Tuesday within the premises of a commercial complex in Jahra area. Sources said the health condition of Lawyer Al-Turki is now stable after undergoing surgeries to remove the bullets from his body. He will soon undergo a surgery to remove the last bullet from his face.

They revealed that the suspect, after committing the crime, surrendered himself at the Psychiatry Hospital from where he was referred to the General Department for Criminal Evidences for investigations.

During interrogations, the suspect revealed that a dispute broke out between him and his wife, after which he warned the lawyer not to take up his wife’s case. However, when the lawyer refused, he became infuriated and shot the lawyer when he left his office. He stressed that he had threatened the lawyer more than once especially after his wife gave Power of Attorney to the lawyer.

Sources explained that the suspect fled to the Psychiatry Hospital because he has been receiving treatment from the hospital. After receiving information about the suspect’s presence in the hospital, Capital securitymen rushed to the location and referred him to the General Department for Criminal Evidences.

A case has been registered against the suspect and he will be referred to the Public Prosecution for necessary legal action against him. Sources also revealed that the lawyer’s driver was shot in his leg and received treatment in Jahra Hospital. Securitymen have secured the area around Jahra Hospital. A number of parliamentarians and lawyers visited the victim at the hospital.

Meanwhile, the Kuwait Lawyers Society condemned the attack against one of its members who was shot outside the premises of his office in Jahra area on Tuesday.

The society wished him quick recovery from this shocking attack which is considered as an attack against every lawyer as well as the profession. In a press statement, the society said the incident indicates a dangerous and stern warning that should not be overlooked or taken lightly despite the fact that it is legally considered as an attempted murder.

It stressed that the incident should be considered as a threat against justice in the country that commits itself to using the law against such kinds of attacks. The society affirmed that it will spare no efforts to confront such actions for the protection of its members and preservation of the reverence of the profession. It urged the Ministry of Interior to perform its effective role in pursuing and curbing the widespread use of unlicensed firearms.

At the same time, it insisted that the ministry must bear full responsibility of how such a weapon ended up in the hands of the culprit, adding that the possession of weapons is a threat to the safety of the country and its people.
