160,000 leave Kuwait in last 23 years: panel ‘87,000 Bedouns legalise status’

 KUWAIT CITY, May 5: Central System for Remedying the Status of Illegal Residents (CSRSIR) revealed that 87,000 Bedouns have adjusted their statuses while 160,000 Bedouns have left the country in the last 23 years, reports Al-Qabas daily. It explained that the number of Bedouns in the country was 220,000 in the year 1990, which has now reduced to 111,000 in year 2013.

In a report, CSRSIR indicated the existence of documents that prove many Bedouns individuals intentionally destroyed their passports. It revealed that four lists of names have been submitted for naturalization, out of which three lists contain names of children of Kuwaiti mothers while the other list has names of 504 individuals who met all necessary conditions for naturalization.

Meanwhile, CSRSIR indicated that 2,046 drivers’ licenses have been issued to Bedouns, 1,419 have been recruited in governmental offices, 15,000 Bedouns students received charity of KD 4 million from the education charity fund, 56,000 Bedouns patients received charity of KD 4 million from the medical fund and 47,000 received assistance of KD 13 million from the Zakat House.
