11,400 liquor bottles worth KD 1 mln found in container

KUWAIT CITY, May 1: A container loaded with 11,400 bottles of liquor worth KD1 million was confiscated from Shuwaikh Port after it arrived from a GCC country one month ago. In a press release, Director of North Ports Waleed Al-Nasser said the customs officers have received information about an unclaimed container that arrived at the port almost one month ago from a GCC country.

The documents indicated that it contained spare parts for the US army. However, when the US Army denied any claim to the container, the customs officers checked it to find 11,400 liquor bottles, which were referred to the concerned authorities for investigations.

Meanwhile, nine Kuwaiti citizens and three Asian expatriates were arrested from an apartment in Shaab area that was used for gambling purposes. According to security sources, when securitymen received information about suspicious activities inside an apartment in Shaab area, they obtained a warrant and raided the apartment to find gambling equipments and large sums of money. Securitymen arrested 12 individuals from the apartment and referred them to the concerned authorities for necessary legal action against them.
