Interior ponders way to rectify status of 80,000 illegal aliens Deliberate ‘over-stayers’ to face law: Al-Nawaf

KUWAIT CITY, April 28: The Assistant Undersecretary for Citizenship and Passports Affairs at the Ministry of Interior Major- General Sheikh Ahmad Al- Nawaf said a study is being conducted to correct the situation of about 80,000 residence law violators of various nationalities in the framework of the Interior Ministry efforts to get rid of this phenomenon once and for all.

Al-Nawaf, in a statement to Al- Seyassah explained according to the plan a deadline will be given to the violators to correct their situations thus protecting the rights of the employers and employees simultaneously. He pointed out the deadline will be determined by the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior Sheikh Mohammad Al-Khalid.

Speaking of the mechanism of solving this problem, Al-Nawaf said most of these workers violated the law for reasons beyond their control, and some of them were subject to pressure from their employers and companies, in addition to reasons linked to their companies and other issues. Al-Nawaf added: “We will listen to them and look for ways to correct their situation within the legal framework.

In an indication to deportation from the country, Al-Nawaf said those who are found to have deliberately violated the law will be dealt with seriously. Al-Nawaf has denied new steps have been taken to ban people of some nationalities from entering the country.
