Visit visa extension

My mother came to Kuwait with a visit visa on Feb 1, 2014. According to the visa, the sponsor is the embassy of my country. On Feb 11, the embassy requested the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Kuwait, to ask the concerned authority to extend the visa period but no response has been received so far in spite of all the effort .

Now I am not hopeful for an extension and want to send her home. By now she has overstayed six days. In this situation, please reply the following questions:

A. Do I need to pay a fine for her overstay? If yes, what is the procedure of payment: when and where to pay.

B. Will she be blacklisted even after applying in time? C. As the embassy is the sponsor for her, is there any possibility that I will be penalized ?

Name withheld

Answer: First of all, person who was on visit will have to pay the fine. As the visa was not extended — in which case the visitor would have got a temporary residence — the fine will be KD 10 per day.

In case a visit visa is extended and then a person overstays, the fine is only KD 2 per day. The fine can be paid at the Immigration Department in your area or at the department’s counter at Kuwait Airport.

Secondly, your mother will be blacklisted and will not be able to get any type of visa for at least one year. This happens if you overstay for even one day. As the embassy is the sponsor, you will not be penalized in any way
