‘Indians, Filipinos top number of expats in deportation jail’ MP says embassies least concerned

KUWAIT CITY, April 20: Indian and Filipino communities constitute the largest number of expatriates in the Deportation Jail compared to other nationalities because their embassies are not concerned about completing the procedures for their repatriation, reports Al- Jarida daily quoting MP Abdulkarim Al- Kandari, member of the Parliamentary Human Rights Committee.

He declared the committee will address the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to activate any agreement signed with Kuwait and other countries, especially India and Philippines regarding the exchange of inmates in prison. He added the committee will ask the ministry to address the ambassadors of the respective countries to care about their countrymen, particularly those serving in Kuwaiti jails and ease procedures for their repatriation, while contributing to resolve the state of disorder in the Deportation Jail.

The committee had paid a surprise visit to the Central Jail and the Deportation Center on April 8 and discovered a large number of inmates in the jails, because their embassies do not care about them
