Passerby finds traffic officer’s car parked in ‘No Parking’ area GTD issues 37,169 citations, seizes 2,406 vehicles

KUWAIT CITY, April 19: At a time when security operatives are expected to serve as role model to maintain law and order, a traffic officer was caught breaking the law in broad daylight when he parked the traffic car in a “No Parking” area for almost 30 minutes on the Fahad Al-Salem Street, reports Al-Watan Arabic daily. A passerby snapped photos of the car with the intention of notifying the Assistant Undersecretary for Traffic Affairs Major General Abdul-Fattah Al- Ali, as he wanted the traffic chief to know that some officers are lawbreakers.

The citizen decided to send the message via media because he did not have the contact of Major General Abdul-Fattah Al-Ali. Meanwhile, officers from the General Traffic Department issued 37,169 traffic citations, seized 2,406 cars and four motorbikes, arrested 126 motorists, executed 26 service orders and registered 183 accidents during a series of security campaigns in all six governorates this week.

According to a press statement issued by the Ministry of Interior, 1,129 traffic citations were issued, 432 vehicles were seized and 7 motorists were arrested in Capital Governorate. In Farwaniya Governorate, 6,510 citations were issued, 232 vehicles were seized and 15 motorists were arrested. In Hawally Governorate, 8,897 traffic citations were issued, 193 vehicles and 4 motorbikes were seized and 26 motorists were arrested while in Ahmadi Governorate, 5,792 citations were issued, 158 vehicles were seized and 22 motorists were arrested.

In Mubarak Al-Kabeer Governorate, 1,463 citations were issued, 271 vehicles were seized and 26 motorists were arrested while in Jahra Governorate, 3,127 traffic citations were issued, 37 vehicles were seized and 4 motorists were arrested.

The Operations Unit of General Traffic Department registered 3,005 traffic citations, seized 569 vehicles and arrested 3 motorists while the Special Task Force issued 826 traffic citations and seized 6 vehicles. The Undersecretary’s team issued 6,420 citations, seized 508 vehicles and arrested 23 motorists.
