Turaiji calls for immediate arrest of ‘wanted’ people

KUWAIT CITY, April 12: The formation of security teams in a bid to quickly arrest those wanted by law is a manifestation of the slackness and negligence of the concerned department, reports Al-Rai daily quoting MP Dr Abdullah Al-Turaiji. In a recent press statement, Al-Turaiji called for the immediate arrest of people wanted by law without using change of address as an excuse.

He argued all expatriates have sponsors who may guide the authorities in arresting whoever is suspected of wrongdoing. He said a citizen wanted by law can be arrested by taking several procedures, considering the country is small and there are many technological ways to speed up the arrest. He clarified the number of people wanted by law is not the issue - whether there are 5,000 or 12,000 - because the main point is that many of those sentenced by the courts remain at large.

Meanwhile, the lawmaker stressed the importance of pumping new blood into the senior positions in the Ministry of Interior; if the minister is really serious in his bid to reform the institution. He said many sectors suffer because some top officials have been in service for more than 40 years and they are not able to work with the same efficiency when they started on the job.

He also asked about the procedures for registering theft cases against unknown or unidentified suspects, indicating that Iran exports drugs to the country utilizing its ability to penetrate the marine borders. He said the big quantity of drugs confiscated recently is evidence that such incident has been going on; hence, it can be deduced that the percentage of addiction among the youths is high.
