‘Camel Racing’ kicks off today ‘Golden sword’

KUWAIT CITY, April 12, (KUNA): Kuwait’s 14th Camel Racing Tournament is kicking off today, under the auspices of His Highness the Amir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, with a wide Arab and international participation. More than 2,000 camels will be in the five-day race that reflects the authenticity of Kuwaiti heritage. The race will be held at the Martyr Fahad Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah track at Kuwait Camel Race Club. A heritage village will be opened on the sideline of the race. Director General of the Public Authority for Youth and Sports and head of the race’s organizing committee, Sheikh Ahmed Mansour Al-Ahmed Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, told the press that the race has been successfully held for 14 consecutive years.

Valuable prizes in form of cars and money will be given to winners, he said noting that the Grand Prize will be a golden sword presented by His Highness the Amir on the final day of the event. Sheikh Ahamd lauded His Highness the Amir’s sponsorship for a significant race that embodies the Kuwaiti culture and heritage.
On his part, Kuwait Camel Racing Club’s Secretary and Director of the tournament Rabih Al-Ajmi told the press that the race will see in action the finest camels in their different categories. He added that all participating camels and their owners have arrived smoothly in the country due to facilities they received from the Kuwaiti and Saudi borders authorities.
