‘Open Market Project’ kicks off, promotes Kuwaiti-owned SMEs Market to open first Saturday of every month

 KUWAIT CITY, April 12: The “Open Market Project”, an all-new and indigenously- owned Small and Medium Scale (SME) industry promotion initiative was launched Saturday at the Kuwait International Fair under the auspices of the Ministry of Commerce and Industry. The initiative, which aims to bring the best Kuwaiti- owned Small and Medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) together under the same roof, was inaugurated by the deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Commerce and Industries Abdulmohsen Al Modaij.

The market will be open on the first Saturday of every month of the year (except in Ramadan) with the view to promoting various types of handicraft and food products. As at the time of the launch, items on exhibition at the seven one stalls of Hall 4A ranged from perfumes, jewellery, flowers, silverware to agricultural produce. The SMEs’ young owners have to pay only a symbolic rent worth KD 25 each daily for a four-meter stall where they can display and market their products. The objective of the drastically reduced fees which normally costs the regular exhibitor over KD150 is to make the initiative attract a large number of young Kuwaiti people into private entrepreneurship to the extent where they can be supported materially to grow.

Established since 1971 with a paid up capital of more than $10 million, the Kuwait International Fair (KIF) is Kuwait’s first and largest exhibition center that has been organizing a vast assortment of trade shows and consumer events for almost 40 years on its fairgrounds in Mishref, Kuwait. A closed shareholding company whose principal shareholders include the Kuwait Investment Authority (KIA) and Kuwait Investment Company (KIC), the entity has always focused all its various strengths into successfully managing and holding local, regional as well as international promotional, trade and consumer events, product and service launches and seminars that all take place in one or more of its six halls that offer all the advantages every exhibitor seeks in trade fair organizers.

As one of Kuwait’s famous landmarks, KIF strives to generate business for all exhibitors as well as make each visitors’ experience a genuinely memorable one. Ever since its establishment, the Kuwait International Fair has organized a variety of exhibitions, from local ones that provide the ease of convenience for many companies in Kuwait to international exhibitions that unite individuals from different backgrounds under one roof where ideas are exchanged and similar products and services are successfully promoted and marketed. Regardless of where the exhibitors originate from, the staff always do their very best to accommodate all participants as well as the many loyal visitors who enter the Kuwait International Fair.
