‘Labor law protects employees’ rights’ HRW delegation, Labor officials meet

KUWAIT CITY, April 7: Assistant Undersecretary for Labor Affairs at Ministry of Social Affairs and Labor Jamal Al-Dousari says Kuwait is keen on stabilizing the conditions of the expatriate laborers, indicating that the new labor law of the private sector is in favor of the employees and protects their rights as well as that of the employers, reports Annahar daily. He said this in response to the questions posed by a delegation from the Human Rights Watch on Sunday and he discussed with them the situation of the domestic personnel in the country.

He affirmed that the Ministry of Interior is in-charge of the domestic personnel affairs while the Ministry of Social Affairs and Labor coordinates continuously with the ministry to handle the file. Al-Dousari revealed that the ministry has provided a temporary shelter for afflicted domestic personnel based on the specifications allotted in this aspect.

Regarding the cancelation of sponsorship system, he referred to the recent decision of establishing a Public Authority for Manpower, which will be responsible for handling matters concerning the personnel in the private and oil sectors. After the meeting, the delegation thanked the officials of Ministry of Social Affairs and Labor for their positive cooperation with them.

Meanwhile, the Assistant Director for Development and Information at Kuwait Municipality Eng. Ahmad Al-Manfouhi Sunday inaugurated the training program organized for employees to run the automated system of renewing health licenses and advertisements.

Indicating that the ministry will launch the system comprehensively, he said the training program will assist the employees in dealing with any hindrances they may face while managing their duties. He further indicated that the automated system for renewing licenses will enable the Surveillance and Inspection Sector affiliated to the Municipality to ensure the Municipality branches in all governorates are using the new system.

Eng Al-Manfouhi explained that the training program will guide the employees on how they can work with the system and familiarize them with the steps to follow to renew licenses and other related tasks.
