‘Fibre-rich food prevents Type 2 diabetes’

KUWAIT CITY, April 6, (KUNA): Eating food rich with fibre will largely contribute to preventing type two diabetes, Dr Abdunnabi Al-Attar, Head of Diabetes Unit at Amiri Hospital, said Saturday. Good health habits like eating lettuce and carrots help greatly in preventing diabetes, Al-Attar said in a press statement on the sidelines Al-Amiri Fifth Day of Diabetes Awareness.

He said losing seven percent of the normal weight as well as walking for 30 minutes daily also contributed to preventing diabetes. Al-Attar said the Amiri Hospital was organizing the awareness campaign to highlight the severity of diabetes and importance of early detection to prevent its consequences. He said the disease was a major factor of heart and brain attacks. Treating diabetic patients, he added, was a heavy burden on the state budget thus prevention was essential. Al-Attar called on parents to educate their children on the importance of eating healthy food and lethal impacts of fastfood
