Reactions positive to Arab Summit hosted by Kuwait Event achieved successes that ‘exceeded all expectations’: Hadi

CAPITALS, March 28, (KUNA): Several Arab governments are pleased with the outcomes of the Wednesday-concluded two-day Arab Summit held in Kuwait, with some non-Arab observers expressing similar views.

The President of Yemen Abd Rabbo Hadi said that the summit achieved successes that “exceeded all expectations and helped overcoming many challenges and difficulties.” Shortly after returning home, having attended himself, he said in statements to the press that the “vital and productive role assumed by His Highness the Amir of Kuwait had a profound effect on proceedings.” These contributions include “choosing the summit’s theme, ‘For a Better Future’, to the detailed preparation, friendly interaction and warm reception” he said he had witnessed. Algerian Foreign Minister Ramtane Lamamra, speaking to state TV and the Algeria Press Service, spoke of the importance of the Kuwait-held talks to coordination between Arab states on delicate issues like Palestinian affairs and the Syrian conflict. On Syria, he said “coordination (between Arab nations) should not be restricted to providing humanitarian assistance.”

These nations should offer proposals aimed at solving the issue, he said, adding that the Arab League should be the place where these plans are delivered. “As long as everyone (Arab League member states) is convinced that there is no military solution to the problem then they are obligated to a political solution. And, it is appropriate that they should come with a workplan on how this could be presented at the negotiating table,” he said. Separately on joint Arab antiterrorism measures adopted at the summit, he said Algeria could offer a lot on this due to its experience on the matter. Fulfilling these measures was declared crucial by Egyptian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Badr Abdel Atti, who said that his country is tasked with ratifying an agreement on this.

Egypt will do its utmost to try and organize a joint meeting of Arab interior and justice ministers to discuss the goal, he said. Furthermore, reporters in Turkey voiced their satisfaction of the summit of Arab countries, held for the first time in Kuwait. Deputy General Manager of Ihlas News Ageny Ismail Balli views that the event managed to come up with some practical solutions to problems facing the region. This is due to the wisdom of the Kuwaiti leadership and its extended hand policy, he said. Also, Ulke TV’s head of news Hasan Ozturk said that Kuwait had provided all the ingredients for the success of the event, describing the talks as “historic, frank and bold.” “The Kuwaiti leadership were able, despite all obstacles, to break through some gloomy Arab moods,” he said, referring to disputes between some of its Gulf members.
