‘61 out of 100,000 women with breast cancer’ 95 pc chances of recovery if detected early

 KUWAIT CITY, March 26: Around 61 out of every 100,000 women in Kuwait have been diagnosed with breast cancer and 86 percent of them were 40 years old or above at the time of diagnosis as per the statistical report released by the center in 2010, Head of the Radiology Department at Kuwait Center for Cancer Control Dr Hanna Al-Khawari told Al-Rai daily. According to Al-Khawari, there is 95 percent chance of recovery if breast cancer is detected early and this has prompted the ministry to expedite the implementation of the breast cancer early detection program, targeting women between 40 to 69 years.

She affirmed the program covers all governorates; in addition to the establishment of five medical centers in the Capital, Hawally, Farwaniya, Jahra and Ahmadi health districts equipped with units for breast cancer diagnosis and mammogram. Al-Khawari added the Ministry of Health is currently studying the possibility of introducing a national program for the early detection of prostate cancer among men, along the lines of the National Program for Early Detection of Breast Cancer launched by Minister of Health Dr Ali Al-Obeidi a month ago.
