Ideal Mother Award has yielded tangible results: Sheikha Fariha Delegation concludes visit to NY

KUWAIT CITY, March 22, (KUNA): President of the Kuwait Association for the Ideal Family Sheikha Fariha Al- Ahmad Al-Jaber Al- Sabah said “the Ideal Mother Award” has yielded tangible results in terms of promoting family awareness and violence renunciation. Sheikha Fariha, speaking during a ceremony for the award distribution, held late on Friday, said the award came as a fruit of diligent efforts by relevant authorities and coordination with foundations that care for cases of special needs. “Voluntary work, undoubtedly, boosts states’ progress and prosperity and enriches social, scientific, cultural activities,” she said, adding that it also cement bonds among family members, citizens and contributes to the country’s development.

She expressed pride for honoring the Kuwaiti, Gulf and Arab ideal mothers for their noticeable contributions to the society development. Saleh Al-Naham, the society advisor, noted that Islam encourages honoring and caring for mothers. For their part, Sheikha Besma Al-Sabah, the general supervisor of the ceremony, and Sheikha Dr Maimouna Al-Sabah, praised the honoring activities for the mothers, noting their vital role in the next generations’ upbringing.

Meanwhile, Chairperson of the Kuwaiti Cabinet’s Committee on Women’s Affairs, and President of the Kuwait Union of Women’s Societies Sheikha Latifa Al- Fahad Al-Salem Al-Sabah, along with her accompanying delegation, has wrapped up a visit to New York. During the mission, she and the other eminent Kuwaiti representatives took part in 58th session of the UN Commission on the Status of Women (CSW).

Involved
Sheikha Latifa, the head of the Kuwaiti delegation to the commission meetings, had been involved in intensive activities during the session, taking part in the general discussions, with an address on role of the Kuwaiti women in the country’s development and modernization, noting Kuwait’s keenness on gender equality and the State placing of this issue among its top priorities.

The chairperson of the Kuwaiti Cabinet commission had also held a series of bilateral meetings with heads of participating Arab and foreign delegations, discussing issues such as violence against women. The Kuwaiti delegation presented during the deliberations several recommendations, stressing on the women right to have access to “production resources.

They had also shed light on the Kuwaiti women and girls’ participation in key sectors, namely education, training, sciences and technology. Sheikha Latifa’s delegation was seen off by the permanent delegate at the UN, Ambassador Mansour Ayyad Al-Otaibi, and members of the Kuwaiti mission. The commission, at end of the session late on Friday, adopted several resolutions concerning “status of the Palestinian woman,” calling for support for the Palestinian females and releasing prisoners. They also blessed a final document concerning women role in development planning.
