First World Police Sports and Security Confab set for March 23 Ex-Barca boss Laporta apologizes for not attending summit

KUWAIT CITY, March 20: The Director of Public Relations and Moral Guidance, and the Acting Director of Media Security Department Colonel Adel Al-Hashash says the First World Police Sports and Security Conference titled ‘Sports to Serve and Protect’ will be held at Regency Hotel in Kuwait on March 23. In a press statement, Colonel Al- Hashash indicated that the Ministry of Interior has formed a comprehensive plan for the conference, which will be held under the patronage of HH the Amir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad, and under the supervision of the International Police Sports Union.

He affirmed that the Police Sports summit, which is being held in Kuwait for the first time, will be attended by world experts in combating riots and violence from the International Police Sports Union, which is headed by Lt General Sheikh Ahmad Al-Nawaf. He explained that the summit will demonstrate the security and sports leadership’s capabilities and competence in organizing such kind of events, adding that such events are essential for improving protection of spectators, providing proper security during sports competitions, and combating violence that has become a recent phenomenon in the sporting arenas.

Colonel Al-Hashash, who is also the Chairman of the Public Relations and Media Security unit in the security committee of the summit, said the Ministry of Interior has taken a number of measures and arrangements out of which the most important one is to increase security awareness campaigns for countering riots and violence on the sports fields. He explained that the Media Security Department is implementing and supervising the campaigns in coordination with all information domains, adding that these domains have shown huge cooperation in this aspect. He indicated that the matter will be highlighted through various means of information including through the establishment of integrated information center, which is aimed to provide all information services, in order to curb the negative phenomenon of violence on the sports fields.

Meanwhile, former president of Barcelona Football Club Juan Laporta said he felt honored to receive an invitation from the International Police Sports Union to attend the First World Police Sport and Security Conference in Kuwait. In his letter of acknowledgement, the former Catalonia FC boss expressed his gratitude for the invitation but apologized for not being able to attend the summit due to prior engagement, as he is supposed to attend the football derby between Real Madrid and Barcelona, which will take place on March 23, the same day as the summit. He indicated his appreciation for being included among the international guests who will attend the summit in Kuwait, especially since it is being held under the patronage of HH the Amir of Kuwait. He also thanked the organizers of the summit and the Chairperson of the International Police Sports Union Lt General Sheikh Ahmad Al-Nawaf, as well as the people of Kuwait.
