‘Teachers’ plan to sue ministry MoE to fill vacant posts

KUWAIT CITY, March 16: Some Science and Social Studies teachers in the elementary stage have announced their plan to sue the Ministry of Education in case it pushes ahead with its intention to reduce the number of subjects for students in the first three grades in the elementary stage, reports Al-Kuwaitiya daily quoting sources.

Disclosing this step is part of the ministry’s educational development program, sources said the teachers, who will be affected by the decision, will be transferred to the intermediate stage. However, this has infuriated the concerned teachers as they are not familiar with the curriculum in the middle stage, sources added.

According to the sources, the teachers have threatened to organize a sit-in anytime this academic year, since the Board of Trustees of the ministry decided in its last meeting to stop teaching Science and Social Studies subjects for the first three grades in the elementary stage. Sources clarified these subjects will be taught starting from the fourth grade; hence, the need to transfer the teachers to the intermediate level. Meanwhile, assistant Undersecretary for Public Education at the Ministry of Education Dr Khalid Al-Rashid has instructed the Technical Coordination and Follow-up Department to determine the number of first supervisors, who met the conditions for promotion, to be appointed as general supervisor in a bid to fill 15 vacant posts in the coming days, reports Al-Seyassah daily quoting sources.

Sources said a committee will be formed soon under the chairmanship of Undersecretary Mariam Al-Wateed with some officials as members to oversee the promotion process. Sources disclosed the conditions for promotion include at least four years experience and excellent performance rating in the last two years
