Kuwaiti triathletes win 4 gold medals

KUWAIT CITY, March 13, (KUNA): Kuwaiti Triathlon players have won four gold medals and one silver in the Arab Triathlon Open Championships held in Sharm El-Sheikh, Egypt, with participation of 34 Arab, African countries and other nations. President of Kuwaiti Triathlon Committee Fahad Jaber Al-Ali Al-Sabah, in remarks to media, praised this success, pointing out that he is keen on supporting the Kuwaiti athletes’ participation in various games and champions, regional and international wise. He hailed the remarkable role played by the administrative and technical committees of the Kuwaiti triathlon team, as well as the Kuwait Olympic Committee and Public Authority For Youth and Sports in supporting this game.

He awarded this victory to His Highness the Amir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, His Highness the Deputy Amir and Crown Prince Sheikh Nawaf Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah and His Highness the Prime Minister Sheikh Jaber Al-Mubarak Al-Hamad Al-Sabah. Triathlon is a multiple-stage competition involving the completion of three continuous and sequential endurance disciplines.

Many variations of the sport exist, while triathlon, in its most popular form involves swimming, cycling, and running in immediate succession over various distances. Triathletes compete for fastest overall course completion time, including timed “transitions” between the individual swim, cycle, and run components. The word “triathlon” is of Greek origin. Kuwait joined the International Triathlon Union (ITU) after being accepted as a member in the general assembly, held in October in 2012.
