MoE mulls raise in private schools fees Kuwait, UAE to boost education ties

KUWAIT CITY, March 13: The Director of the Private Education Sector at the Ministry of Education Abdullah Al-Basiri was recently quoted as saying the ministry is evaluating school fees in private schools, reports Al-Seyassah daily. According to reliable sources the school fees will be based on certain conditions and regulations linked to the betterment of the educational services provided to students.

Al-Basiri was speaking on the sidelines of the sports marathon which was organized by the Private Education Department of the Ministry of Education under the title ‘Sports Challenge Day’. Most of those participating in the event were children studying in private schools. Al-Basiri indicated a committee has been formed to look into the new school fees structure of the Arab, Indian, Pakistani and Philippine schools in Kuwait. He added, the issue of school fees is an everlasting issue, where the ministry is usually cornered by school owners on one hand and the parents of students on the other making it imperative to solve this issue once and for all. Al-Basiri informed the Ministry has received a report from a company which was assigned to appraise foreign schools. The report will be referred to the Assistant Undersecretary for Private Education sector of the Ministry and the report is expected to be presented to Minister of Education and Minister of Higher Education Ahmad Al- Mulaifi for further action. The Ministry will then notify the schools regarding their appraisal results and remarks, and if there is something to be changed in a certain school, the ministry will give this school a one-year time to rectify its situation based on the report. Meanwhile, the visiting Kuwaiti Minister of Education and Minister of Higher Education Ahmad Al-Mulaifi discussed with his UAE counterpart means of boosting bilateral cooperation in education.

The Higher Education Ministry Undersecretary Rashid Al-Nuwaihid told KUNA, Thursday, that the meeting with the UAE minister Sheikh Hamdan bin Mubarak Al-Nahayyan took place on the fringes of attending a ceremony to honor excellent Kuwaiti students in the UAE, Oman and Qatar; the ceremony is to be held under the patronage of the Kuwaiti minister. The meeting of the two ministers tackled opening opportunities for cultural and educational exchange, holding artistic and scientific exhibitions and developing information exchange between educational institutions in Kuwait and UAE. Al-Nuwaihid said matters concerning Kuwaiti students living and education conditions were discussed at the meeting as well. He added that the sponsorship of Al-Mulaifi to the ceremony, organized by Kuwaiti cultural office, signifies the importance of commending Kuwaiti students for their excellent achievement in
