J.H Bae tops Hankook Golf Tournament 2014 Bhasin claims second place as Panza finishes in third

KUWAIT CITY, March 12: The prestigious Hankook Golf Tournament was organized last Friday at Sahara Golf Club. An important fixture in the annual golf calendar of Kuwait, the tournament has always attracted keen golfers from all over. This year there was an unprecedented rush for entries, and the organizers had a tough time in narrowing down the list to 108 players who eventually participated.  In true spirit of Golf, which allows players from diverse backgrounds, varying skill levels and different age groups to come together and play on a single platform, this year also the participants had come from various walks of life, and that included ambassadors of three countries who graced the occasion by their energetic participation.

The weather was wonderful on Friday with bright sunny conditions and a light, cool breeze, all of which contributed to a good game of golf. As in earlier years, the game was played in the ‘Stableford’ format, in which scoring is based on the number of strokes taken on each hole relative to the hole’s par.
The tee-off commenced at 8:00 am using the shotgun approach, and since the Stableford format allows for relatively speedy play, the game finished at 1:30 pm. This was followed by prize distribution and a sumptuous lunch for the players and their families.
In a keenly-contested game, J.H. Bae came up with a superlative score of 38 to win the tournament. He was followed by the young Karan Bhasin who continued his winning streak this season to claim the second prize with a score of 34.
The third place was taken by Greg Panza, also on 34 but losing out on count-back. The Best Gross was achieved by Alan MacDonald who scored an amazing 72 points. Among other prizes, the Longest Drive for Ladies’ and Men’s categories was won by Noor Al-Dousari and Yousef Al-Qatami respectively.
Finally, the Nearest to Pin prize for Ladies’ and Men’s was won by two Korean golfers - M.O. Cha and S.D.Oh respectively.
Speaking on the occasion, Kuldeep Lamba, Managing Director, AlMailem Group expressed his satisfaction at the large turnout. “We have been overwhelmed by the positive response Hankook Tournament has always received”, he added, “I would like to thank Byun Young Seol, Vice-President, Global Sales, Hankook Korea and B.H. Kim, General Manager, Hankook Dubai for their unwavering support and commitment, which has made it possible for us to successfully conduct this event for the last so many years.
In fact, Seolhas specially flown here today morning just to encourage us, and we sincerely appreciate this gesture”. He complimented the Sahara Club officials for their professional handling of the event, and expressed hope that the tournament would continue to receive the same level of enthusiastic response in future also.
