Amir’s support to sports ‘medal of pride’ 3rd International Shooting Grand Prix inaugurated

KUWAIT CITY, March 9: Minister of Information, State Minister for Youth Affairs Sheikh Salman Al-Hmoud said the support given by HH the Amir to the Kuwaiti shooting sports is a medal of pride for the players of this discipline. He said this during the inauguration Saturday of His Highness the Amir’s Third International Shooting Grand Prix held at Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Olympic Shooting Complex held in the complex. The tournament includes competitions in the skeet, trap and double-trap. The 7th Asian Airgun Championship will be held as well. The inaugural celebration included a national operetta where several folkloric performances were held. This was in addition to a documentary film showing the journey and achievements of the Kuwaiti shooters at the Olympics and the international and continental championships. Sheikh Salman who represented HH the Amir said organizing this championship by Kuwait reflects the unlimited support which HH the Amir gives for Kuwaiti shooters.

He added, “It is a honor to represent HH the Amir in this championship in which over 50 countries are taking part.” He hoped the Kuwaitis will better their standing. Head of the Arab Shooting Confederation (ASC) and Kuwait Shooting Club Duaij Al-Otaibi commended His Highness the Amir’s support for shooting. Al-Otaibi, in his speech at the opening ceremony, said Kuwait was proud to host the Grand Prix competitions which comes shortly after the celebrations of 53rd National Day, the 23rd Liberation Day of Kuwait and the 8th anniversary of His Highness the Amir’s assumption of office. Chairman of Arab Union and Kuwaiti Shooting Club Eng Duaij Al-Otaibi hailed the infinite support which HH the Amir gives for the shooting unions in the Asian continent — material, moral and financial support.

Meanwhile, director of Public Authority for Youth and Sports (PAYS) Esam Jaafar stressed PAYS spares no effort to support the Kuwait Shooting Club and disclosed the authority had allotted a special budget for organizing this championship. Secretary of Kuwait and Arab Shooting Unions Obaid Al-Osaimi affirmed the higher organizing committee shouldered the responsibility of emphasizing that Kuwaitis can efficiently and successfully organize such huge sports championships and succeed them. It is noteworthy to mention that one gold medal is up for grabs on the second day of championship in the contest of Skeet for men. On the second day in Rifle and Gun contests 3 gold medals are at stake — gun for men (10 meters) and gun for youth (men and women 10 meters).
