Old-timers got to go: judiciary ‘Decision on visit to work visa expected this week’

KUWAIT CITY, March 9: Minister of Social Affairs and Labor Hind Al-Sabeeh is expected to take a decision within this week on the transfer of commercial visit visas to work permits in the private sector for expatriates who entered the country after Feb 16, 2014. On the other hand, Undersecretary Abdul-mohsin Al-Mutairi disclosed the Employees Affairs Committee held its first meeting Sunday, during which the members discussed the need to fill up vacancies in the ministry. He affirmed, ‘’The judiciary upheld the decision on the retirement of those who have been in service in the government sector for more than 30 years.”

Al-Mutairi added that in line with the directive of HH the Prime Minister Sheikh Jaber Al-Mubarak to limit expenditures, the ministry decided to vacate the rented offices in Behbehani Complex in Sharq starting from the end of May. He disclosed the Labor Relations Department and the Capital Inspection Unit will be relocated to the Capital Governorate Labor Department. He said the ministry will save KD 428,000 annually through this step, indicating that “we have started expediting the process to vacate the offices before the deadline in August to save KD 357,000 — the value of the remaining period of the contract.’’

The Minister Council instructed government authorities and other independent bodies about the importance of conducting studies and strategies to counter the anticipated financial deficit in its revenues, which is because of mismanagement or lack of collection of dues, reports Al-Anba daily quoting governmental sources. They indicated that the Minister Council also stressed the need for increasing revenues based on the government plan and programs. They explained that the government directed its sectors to collect its delayed revenues from every government body before the general state budget is endorsed. The sources added that these government bodies should submit their quarterly annual reports on their achievements to the department that monitors the government’s performance in this regard.
