Police arrest six-man gang in chain of mall robberies

KUWAIT CITY, March 6: Personnel from the Andalus Police Station have arrested a six-man gang (two Kuwaitis and four Arabs — a citizen of a GCC state, an Yemeni, Iraqi and a Syrian) for breaking into shops in commercial areas, particularly shops selling cell phones, reports Al-Watan Arabic daily. The arrest came after the suspects broke into a shop selling cell phones in Riqqa and escaped with expensive mobile phones, Ipad and KD 3,400 cash.

It has been reported police initially arrested one of the suspects and during interrogation he admitted to the charge and led police to his accomplices. The suspects have been handed over to the Public Prosecution. Meanwhile, police have arrested two members of the gang and are looking for others for robbing expatriates living in camps in Kabad and Sulaibiya, reports Al-Shahed daily.

The daily added, one of the gang members is a GCC citizen and he is said to have escaped from the country following the arrest of some members of the gang. During interrogation the suspects are said to have admitted to the charge. And, the Jahra police have detained for interrogation an unidentified 23- year-old Iranian for allegedly breaking into the Ali Al-Salem airbase before midnight, reports Al-Watan Arabic daily.

However, during investigation the Iranian appeared abnormal and was heard murmuring prophecies. The suspect has been referred to a psychiatrist to measure his mental strength.
