The Ministry of the Interior has become the source for scandals because they are committed by people who are supposed to maintain law and order, reports Al-Rai daily. The daily added, thousands of bullets and countless broken alcohol bottles are found in the deserts of Kuwait and a series of cases have been registered against unknown people. The latest episode in the series of such scandals was an attempt to help a GCC citizen to leave the country although he was arrested while in possession of an unlicensed gun.

The suspect was arrested on Jan 4, 2014 when customs officers at the Al-Nuwaiseeb border post had taken him into custody for possessing a pistol and nine rounds of ammunition. The suspect was referred to the General Customs Department and the latter had handed him over to a police station and then to the General Department for Criminal Investigation. According to informed sources, the suspect is holding a PhD degree and an influential personality in the State Security and a senior officer from the Interior Ministry intervened for his release. The sources added the Public Prosecutor, who was in the process of investigating the suspect contacted the sponsor asking him to bring the man for interrogation. To his surprise he found the suspect had already left the country.
